Monte Albán

Visible in the center (foreground and back) and at the left edge of the photograph is the "M System" of structures. Nearly 400 large rectangular stone blocks were placed here, carved with human figures sometimes referred to as "dancers." The relief carvings on these stones are believed to represent people who lived and died in Monte Albán, including captives, warriors, the sick, and the deformed.
