Monte Albán

Monte Albán

Founded in 500 BC, Monte Albán was one of the first cities in Mesoamerica and also one of the most populous, with more than 100,000 inhabitants in its heyday. This sacred city of the ancient Zapotecs rises more than 400 meters above the valley floor. The houses of the common people, built in the foothills with wood and adobe, are long gone.
