How Do You Know You're Happy?
A Nanoplay in One Act

The characters:
STONE, a man in his 30s
Various gay male sunbathers
(The scene: The eastern shoreline of Miami Beach, between 13th and 14th Street, in the heart of the Art Deco district. As the curtain opens, Stone is pacing back and forth on the sand, speaking loudly into his cell phone and listening intently to the replies. He wears tight red Speedos and a shark's tooth around his neck. The sunbathers do their best to ignore him.)
STONE:
(Animated; speaking a little too loudly.) How do you know you're happy? (Listens.) Then how do you know you're happy? (Listens. He stops pacing and appears concerned. His voice softens.) Are you sure? (Long pause.)
(Curtain.)
